Title: From stoichiometry to correlation matrices: Building a bridge between metabolic theory and metabolomic data

Steady state metabolomic measurements of biological replicates under the same experimental conditions exhibit a non-random correlation 'signature', which can be theoretically derived. However, it is hard to find heuristic explanations for high correlations as they rarely map to neighbours on the metabolic map, but rather they are emergent properties of the entire system. Given that the theory of metabolic networks is relatively well established, it is eventually desirable to validate metabolomic data against theoretical predictions. However, it is not a trivial task to characterize a high dimensional dataset with complex dependence structure. In this talk, we consider the emergent properties of two datasets (human glioma cell line and human mesenchymal stem cell line) via their eigenspectrums, and compare the differences between them using an amalgamation of multivariate methods.
